There was a sunny summer day in Denmark! So we went on a little roadtrip to Hillerød, about 30 mins outside of Copenhagen by car. Hillerød is home to Frederiksborg Castle (or Frederiksborg Slot in Danish).
It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century, becoming the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia.
The most breathtaking aspect of the castle is the gardens. They are perfectly manicured even today. Towards the lake there is even King Christian IV’s crest carved by hedges – talk about a way to mark your territory!
